Can I sell my timeshare without a real estate broker or agent? This is what many timeshare owners think about before they purchase a timeshare. Which is a good idea. You want to know what your 'exit' options are, before you buy. If I had to narrow it down to five major points on the topic of timeshares I'd pick: 1. Timeshare sales representatives are neither an excellent nor a dependable source of specific information regarding the advisability of one's purchase. Remember their job is to sell you the timeshare unit, not give you friendly advice. 2. Location, Location Location. You've heard that..right? The value of your resort will depend on it's location and it's popularity. 3. Resort, resort resort. Not only does the area of the country need to be popular, but is your unit in a timeshare resort that is popular. 4. Week, week, week. Do you have a great week that others would like to trade points for. 5. Points, points, points. Be sure to get enough points to trade into other resorts. Timeshare is the territory of each resort across the world.

Most travel companies, offer tour packages to vacation destinations throughout the world. Could it be that an increase in the worldwide travel market might benefit timeshare owners? Most timeshare lovers would say yes.

The companies promote tour packages by arranging for short presentations and end hoping people to sign for their timeshare scheme. More and more people have taken to investing money in buying timeshares to enjoy their vacations. TimeSharePilgrim.com also points out that people buy timeshare vacation packages as a means of recreation, and the ability to travel globally and stay in timeshare units working in tandem with the owners home development.

Tips For Selling Timeshare:

Even some resale companies' charge a hefty price of around $700 to market your timeshare but in fact, they do nothing to sell it. Always ask for a list of testimonies from past customers. If they can't offer any, then you may want to think twice about using that company. The idea behind selling timeshare is obviously to make money more than the actual price involved in buying it. For those who want to benefit from selling their timeshares, few tips are as follows:

1.Since most timeshare resorts are located in exciting and beautiful locales around the world, vacationers want to be sure to set aside time from their busy vacation schedule to take advantage of the many activities that may be available outside of the resort proper. A little known fact about the timeshare industry is that if someone buys a timeshare at full price, half of the sales price goes to the marketing costs of that timeshare. Keep that in mind, if you ever want to sell your unit the real cost associates with a timeshare sale. There are sellers, who try to sell timeshares for more the price than its actual value. They end with the compulsion for lowering the price. Buyers need to know in detail, the steps involved and what it takes to purchase a timeshare. Based on the market and the company, sellers may sell timeshares 20-30 per cent what the resort sells. Before purchasing a timeshare from any developer, make sure, the sales price is in writing. Do not let them include additional items, ie: extra maintainance fees that you don't know about. Make sure you see EVERYTHING in writing. Line by line. Keep in mind, the sales people are usually trying to get you to purchase based on an emotiona sale. So, you need to make your purchaser based on reason, not emotion. Don't be swayed by emotion...be smart and wise.

2. Choose proper company: Of the many timeshare companies, some are fraud. Do proper research on companies before advertising the timeshare. Check for companies, which offer to sell timeshares within specified time. Most companies claim for charge less than $50 for a particular ad. This is false. Make sure the company helps either to make profit on the sale of timeshare or to break even. Before buying a timeshare from any real estate agent, buyers need to study the real estate market. Otherwise, there are chances for the buyer to fall in a trap. For instance, if the timeshare were surrounded by legal hassles, it would be difficult for the buyer to sell it later.

3. Get proper exposure: Select a company, which exposes the timeshare to prospective buyers. This is because it has to be brought to the notice of people willing to buy. Be aware of frauds that claim high exposure in the market. Do this by searching for keywords related to timeshares in Google. Go through the rankings of the company on particular keywords to get a clear-cut picture of its influence in the timeshare sale market.

If you are in the timeshare market you may have asked yourself, "What Timeshare info do I need to know and what do I need to know about selling or purchasing a timeshare?" Be sure to visit Thomas Sondheim's musings about Timeshares over at his blog. Thomas Sondheim had many questions about Timeshare ownership several years ago when he became associated with the Timeshares industry. It wasn't until Thomas realized the great benefits of Timeshares, that he became a fan of this unique real estate vacation opportunity. South America is still the main source for growing quinoa although farmers in other countries with a suitable climate are also growing it. In the UK it is now available in some of the major supermarkets as well as the larger health food stores.

What is quinoa?

Put your money to work for you by learning where to invest it for the best returns

Although it is most definitely a seed quinoa is usually included with grains for cooking purposes. It is actually a seed from a plant that is related to Spinach and Chard. The leaves can be eaten, not just the seeds. Of course the leaf version is only available where it is grown as it does not store or travel well. The original seed type is the most important type of quinoa because it holds all the nutritional benefits with it.

Put your money to work for you by learning where to invest it for the best returns

What is Quinoa Like?

The seeds are similar to dry rice only about a third of the size. There are different varieties but the most common one is the creamy white type. Red and black quinoa is much rarer. When I buy it I get it in 500g or 1 kg dry packs. You can use them as a replacement for rice or cous cous. This doesn't mean it is bland and uninteresting - far from it. It has a taste and original texture of its own.

Put your money to work for you by learning where to invest it for the best returns

How do you cook Quinoa?

The most basic method of cooking quinoa is to boil it in water and simmer for 10 -12 minutes. You need 1 measure of quinoa to 2 measures of water. All the water will be absorbed by the Quinoa. Sometimes the slightly bitter saponin coating has not been removed. You will need to get rid of this coating by running the quinoa under a tap for a minute or two. Most shops now sell without the coating.

When it is ready to eat you simply use it as an accompaniament to you main dish or indeed as a solo meal. You can put it in many other types of recipes. It takes on the flavour of the foods you cook it with and adds it own little bite to the taste.

Put your money to work for you by learning where to invest it for the best returns

If you look closely you can see a "tail" that is just the quinoa germ. This has a very pleasant crunch to it when you eat it. Some people describe this as being nutty. I’m not sure I agree but quinoa does taste good.

You can microwave quinoa and put it in casseroles as a thickening agent. To expand the usefulness of this superfood companies are now producing quinoa flour and flakes. You do have to go careful with the quinoa flour because it is not a straight substitue for wheat flour.

What is special about Quinoa?

Quinoa is almost unparalled in the world of seeds and grains. Firstly it is gluten free so for people who need to avoid gluten it is a great addition to their diet. It also has all the essential proteins so is good for supply vegetarians with minerals and vitamins you can’t get easily from other foods. Because it realeases the carbs slowly over time it is know to benefit a number of food related health problems.

Why More People Are Going With Satellite Television

Which is the best choice? People in the USA are now more likely to order satellite TV over cable TV for the bottom line reason that you receive more for your money with satellite television. You also get all of the best that television has to offer the customer. Not to mention the better price as well. Satellite television costs less than cable by far. These days with satellite TV, you will be getting hundreds of stations, audio and video, with your package. Cable companies charge you by how many channels you have, and that can add up in a hurry.

If you want any extra premium channels such as HBO or Showtime, get ready with your wallet, because you have to be prepared to spend a lot of extra money. They don't provide you with any service at all in the outlying areas, thus satellite television is the only game in these regions of the United States. Cable companies will offer more stations in the urban type areas, as there they have the potential for many more subscribers. So at times, a lot may depend on where you live in the country. While they are offering more pay channels in the suburban parts of the country, the number of channels you will receive overall depends on the cable system itself, they aren't always up to date with modern technology.

Satellite TV on the other hand offers many more options, and lots of programs that fit your interests. If you haven't ever considered satellite TV, it may be time to open your mind to all that is now out there. As mentioned earlier you will pay less for the cost for satellite television when comparing it to cable. Usually, cable can be very expensive because they have a large network to upgrade and maintain.

If you are the type of person that wants more for your money, and who isn't like that, the certainly check into the two large satellite companies offering service to see what the can offer you today. Another point to consider is quality. All of us have had the experience of receiving poor quality picture or sound from the cable company. Then when you call for resolution, it takes a long time for a technician to come out and fix the problem. While you may have problems from time to time with satellite TV, overall they have better customer service.

Satellite television offers the best in digital programming, and they back up their product with excellent service. With satellite TV you can also receive foreign language channels, for example the DirecTV Chinese package and the DISH Latino Spanish bundle are good foreign languge options. Lastly, if you have a family, including young kids you can find a lot more for them as far as viewing choices. There literally hundreds of family and children's programs for you to pick from. Add to that a DVR, and you will always be able to entertain the kids. If great content is all you want, Dish Network even offers 100% hi def packages now, called TurboHD.

Absinthe - The Green Fairy

Absinthe Green Fairy is an alcoholic drink with an interesting history. Developed as an elixir or tonic in the 18th century it is now one of the most controversial and famous drinks of all time.

Absinthe is an anise flavored spirit which is incredibly strong, between 45 and 75% Alcohol by volume. It is emerald green in color, hence the name “Green Fairy” or in French “La Fee Verte”. It is a distilled liquor made from herbs. The three main herbs tend to be wormwood (Artemisia Absinthium), green aniseed and fennel (fennell). Henri-Louis Pernod, who first commercially distilled Absinthe, used other herbs such as hyssop, lemon balm, nutmeg, juniper, veronica, star anise and dittany to produce his famous original Pernod Absinthe recipe. Other ingrediants such as the herb calamus were used by some manufacturers and this herb along with wormwood and nutmeg were though to be psychoactive. It is the essential oil extract from the herbs which causes Absinthe to louche when iced water is poured over the sugar on the Absinthe spoon. The oils are not water soluble and so cause the Absinthe to cloud or louche.

Absinthe Green Fairy and the Art World

Absinthe is famous for inspiring many artists and writers associated with the Bohemian culture of the Montmartre area of Paris. Famous Absinthe drinkers include Vincent Van Gough, Pablo Picasso, Paul Gauguin, Charles Baudelaire, Edgar Degas, Ernest Hemingway and Oscar Wilde. Many writers and artists were convinced that Absinthe gave them inspiration and gave them their genius. Painters like Van Gogh and Picasso even featured Absinthe and Absinthe drinkers in their paintings.

Absinthe's association with old Montmartre, the Moulin Rouge and the Bohemian sect, was just the excuse that prohibition campaigners needed. Once it was linked with the murder of a family and the growing problem of alcohol addiction in France it was easy for campaigners to get the sale of Absinthe made illegal and it was banned in France in 1915. Other countries also banned it but it remained legal in the Czech Republic, the UK, Spain and Portugal.

The chemical thujone, present in wormwood, was blamed for the psychedelic effects of drinking the Green Fairy. Thujone was thought to be similar to THC in cannabis. However Absinthe is mainly alcohol, ethanol, and therefore only contains minute quanitities of thujone. Research has shown that Absinthe is just as safe as any other strong liquor and that it is the alcohol content not the thujone that is dangerous. Many studies and articles have been written on the subject. If you remember that it is about twice as strong as vodka or whisky and drink it with care and in moderation, it is simply a drink which gives pleasure.

During the time of prohibition many people enjoyed buying and drinking vintage style Absinthe in Absinthe bars in the Czech Republic, served in the classic Absinthe large glasses and in surroundings decorated with vintage Absinthe posters. Now, in 2008, Absinthe is legal in many countries although thujone levels are controlled in the EU and the United States only allows Absinthe with trace amounts of thujone to be bought and sold.

You can buy Absinthe online by the bottle or order Absinthe essences (visit the website AbsintheKit.com) to make your own Absinthe Green Fairy to bottle at home. Real Absinthe and Absinthe essences contain the vital ingredient wormwood but some new Absinthes, produced for the US market, do not contain thujone.

Absinthe Green Fairy is a delicious spirit and can be used in cocktails too – mix with champagne for a truly decadent drink!

Taking A Trip To This Beautiful South American Location

cancun spa

Vacationing with your family in Puerto Cancun offers many benefits. In fact, you and your family may wish that you could stay in longer.

What A Deal In Costa Rica!

All inclusive resort in Costa Rica is the best vacation route you can ever take. With a pleasing melange of old and modern traditions and culture, Alicante is found within the popular holiday region of the Costa Blanca. Alicante's visitors will enjoy warm sunny climate, some of the best beaches Spain can offer as well as the most remarkable of Moorish architecture.

Situated on the Spanish coastline between the resorts of Benidorm and Elche, The city sits below its mountain top castle. Alicante and its surrounding areas are peppered with churches with the most recognised of them all being that of the Iglesia de Santa Maria. This is the city's oldest church and was built between the 14th and 16th centuries being at one time a mosque. St Nicholas Cathedral in the city was constructed in the 17th century in honour of the city's patron saint and is thus one of the most significant buildings for miles around.

Alicante has a great selection of old buildings to satisfy historians and sightseers and can be found all around the area with columns and statues adding interest to a number of once uninspiring locations. Keeping a keen eye out to Alicante Bay, the Castillo de Santa Barbara is recognised as one of the largest medieval fortresses throughout Europe. Easily reached by car or by lift (elevator) from the Paseo Maritimo, the fortress offers unsurpassed vistas of the amazing local scenery. In addition to the drama the Castillo offers, Alicante has more architectural treasures such as the Provincial Gallery, once the Gavina Palace, plus its its nineteenth century bull- ring. The vast majority of the Alicante sights are readily accessible using an Alicante Airport hire car. Online booking of your hire car would be expected to produce big savings together with guaranteeing that your requested vehicle is definitely when you arrive at the airport.

Alicante is the ideal venue to come to enjoy your self and the leading reason visitors come back each year. With such a huge range of hotel rooms available, there are plenty of cheap Alicante Hotels to suit all tastes and pockets. The beaches here have the most golden sand and consist of both accessible and secluded bays ideal for private sunbathing. Drive over to Albufereta Beach where there is really good range of water sports. It is a peaceful spot that is relatively unspoilt by the majority of holidaymakers.

The Playa del Postiguet offers the ideal place for an after dinner stroll. You will be joined by the locals along this attractive sea view - it's a perfect location for bringing the day to a close. Once the Port serving Madrid, Alicante Harbour offers a combination of fishing and sailing and is the perfect place to come to find the best fish restaurants in town. Alicante harbour provides an ideal source of activity day and night. Here is where visitors come to learn sailing, eat superbly delicious, fresh fish and enjoy a spot of clubbing into the wee small hours.

Nobody likes a knees up as much as the locals and visitors of Alicante! Here you will find a celebration of some description taking place throughout the year, no matter what time of the year you want to visit. One of the more serious of festivals in the Costa Blanca is that of the Easter Procession. Wearing black and carrying candles, an effigy of Jesus is paraded on a cross around the streets. Every November, in honour of the Patron Saint Crist del Bon Encert, each town has its own fiesta. Expect shops to be closed all day, every day as the town closes down for this amazing event of dancing, singing and firework displays. On a less religious note, one of the most famous local festivals is that of the International Puppet Festival.

Timeshare Ownership: The Good, The Bad, and the Truth

According to TimeSharePilgrim.com buyers have to clear outstanding dues before actually offering it for sale to any other party. The entire selling process can costs as much as the invested amount and buyers lose on great money in the entire process. Timeshare investment has been around for years, but recently has enjoyed a renaissance of interest, investment and vacation opportunity. Timeshare vacation packages are available in two different flavors such as the taste test and the sampler. You can always ask the timeshare salesman which one of these their resort falls into. Or, ask if they offer they offer both.

Timeshares fractional ownership is an ideal option for a perfect vacation outing. Keep in mind that if your vacation week lies in an off-season; its demand would be naturally low. So, you want to make sure your week is in a favorable week. In other words, a week when a large number of people will want to trade your week for theirs. Many reputed timeshare companies have earned billions of dollars and created millions of timeshare owners by such timeshare packages. Sometimes people get frustrated with their timeshare ownership. It could be that the owner doesn't really understand how to use the timeshare to its fullest. Frankly, many people become frustrated with the point system, consequently not using their timeshare ownership to its fullest.

If you want to rent your timeshare resort you need to advertise your timeshare in the more aggressive online timeshare sites. TimeSharePilgrim.com also states that when a person buys a timeshare they anticipate the advantage of staying in a five star resort at the cost of a cheap hotel, if they can get the point system to work in their favor. Sometimes, timeshare packages include car rentals, transfers, sightseeing and meal plans. Timeshares points usually have enhance the resale prices. So, timeshare purchasers need to be well informed about the particulars of the point system and how to best position their unit in the best light.

The best lesson to learn from timeshare owners, in case they want to sell, is to ask them why they are: 1. Selling out of that development. 2. Are they getting out of timeshare completely? 3. Also ask if they are happy with the management of the resort. There's also a decent chance that you bought when there was more of a demand for your unit than there is today; it was the "in" thing to do. It is advisable to consider those places, which are high in demand such as Orlando and Las Vegas when seeking to acquire a timeshare.

Also, on another related note, In many countries there are severe limits on foreign property ownership, so this is a common method for developing resorts in countries such as Mexico.

HTML clipboardTimeshare resorts around the world are giving vacationers the ability to visit
exotic locations at affordable prices. Thomas Sondheim enjoys traveling and
reporting his findings on his blog at TimesharePilgrim.com.

Spanish Courses - Learning Spanish Like Crazy (A Review)

One of the two or three best Spanish courses, in my opinion, is Learning Spanish Like Crazy. Of the many courses available that promise to teach you to speak fluent Spanish rapidly, it is one of two that get my highest recommendation.

This Spanish course is also downloadable from the Internet. And, before you decide whether or not spend money on it, you can preview its lessons for free (more about that in a moment).

What I think makes this an exceptional Spanish course is that it's targeted to people who want to learn to speak, not generic or textbook Spanish, but contemporary Latin American Spanish. This probably includes almost everyone in the United States or Canada who has some interest in learning Spanish. After all, Mexico is the most-visited foreign country for people from the U.S. And, increasingly, we in the U.S. are encountering Spanish-speaking individuals from Latin America in our stores, on the streets and in our workplaces.

All of the lessons in this Spanish course were developed by native, college-educated Latin Americans. So, what you learn--absorb, really, because it happens so effortlessly--is an educated type of Spanish that is modern, current and immediately useful.

The method of teaching used in Learning Spanish Like Crazy is fun--it kept me engaged and made it hard for me to stop between lessons, despite the fact that I know that all language study is more effective when broken into chunks.

The speakers in the audios and videos included with this Spanish course positively sparkle with personality, which makes the learning go down easy.

The focus in the Learning Spanish Like Crazy course is on learning conversational Spanish. And for the Latin American variety of the language, this really is the best course out there. If your need is to learn a more formal type of Spanish, or European Spanish for that matter, this wouldn't be the course for you. But, as noted, for most people from the U.S. and Canada who want to learn Spanish for travel or for conversing with the Spanish speaking people they meet in their daily lives, this course is ideal.

As stated previously, I am always dubious of Spanish courses that claim they can make you fluent in a language, especially rapidly. The promotional copy for Learning Spanish Like Crazy promises, "[Y]ou'll be speaking speaking Spanish so well that people will almost mistake you for a native." That's probably stepping out a little too far on the limb, in my opinion, and I'm glad they at least qualified it with the word "almost."

Still, this is one Spanish course that I honestly believe can have you speaking and understanding the language well enough to converse with native Speakers both comfortably and in a faster amount of time than you might believe.

The people behind the course are so confident about their product that when you first click through to their home page, they don't even tell you how you can purchase it!

Rather, they encourage you to sign up (with no obligation) to receive some free lessons. The freebie lessons are impressive--audio, video and text to let you sample a generous portion of the actual course. You'll learn a lot just from the free lessons--even if you never buy the full Learning Spanish Like Crazy course.

My advice: Sign up for the free lessons. And if you find them to be as good as I think they are, I'm sure you'll want to spring for the whole course. It's one of the best Spanish courses you'll find anywhere.

Go ahead. Learn Spanish like crazy!

Spanish Courses: Rocket Spanish (Review)

I picked up some old cassette tapes at a yard sale recently. They were Spanish language learning tapes, and I recognized the name as one of the top-selling courses from a few years ago.

I tried to listen to the tapes but did not get very far with them. It's not that the tapes were particularly bad. But I quickly realized that they couldn't teach me much more of the Spanish language than I already knew.

Maybe if I were a beginner, I could pick up some basic Spanish vocabulary and a few stock phrases from that particular tape course--but then, I could learn as much or more from an inexpensive Spanish phrase book. Thebenefit of the tapes would be hearing the language pronounced.

I've been learning the Spanish langauge for years, and technology has really opened a new world of possibilities for people like me. Despite all the audio and video tapes, CDs and DVDs, and computer software, though, most of these high-tech courses just recycle the same old material.

I've looked at a many Spanish language learning courses, some OK, some pretty bad. I had about concluded that the only way anyone could ever truly learn Spanish was by living in a Spanish speaking country.

But ... I've just found something new that has completely blown me away--as well as all my prejudices about what it is possible from a Spanish course.

It's called Rocket Spanish, and in my opinion they're not exaggerating when they claim the course can "rocket your language learning ability through the roof."

So what is Rocket Spanish?

Basically, it's a really big suite of Spanish language learning tools that you can download and start using right away. (You can also have physical CDs and printed books in a big nice-looking package sent to you, but the download version saves money, so that's what I recommend.)

The core of Rocket Spanish is an interactive audio course designed to get you speaking conversational Spanish fast. With the audio Spanish course are four e-books of grammar lessons, useful words and phrases, and vocabulary and exercises.

Unlike those in many other Spanish courses, I find the interactive audio exercises to be really fun. It's almost like you're sitting around socializing with new friends who bring you right into their world--into their way of speaking, thinking, and enjoying themselves--so gently yet quickly that you'll amaze yourself with how much Spanish you're learning through the course.

Between listening to the different audio segments you can study the corresponding chapters in the conversation and beginners' books that come with the course.

The audio and books are just the beginning, though. There's also MegaSpanish, consisting of the MegaVocab and MegaAudio software for playing games to accelerate your ability to learn Spanish.

The games are challenging and engaging. But what I like best is, you can modify the vocabulary of the games to use the words that you need to learn.

The Rocket Spanish course is really long on substance, which is what matters most. It's comprehensive, and flexible enough to take you about as far as you would care to go with any course in Spanish.

But aside from content, I do want to mention the production values of the Rocket Spanish course package--they're definitely top notch. (Check out the screen shots on the web site.)

My inner skeptic speaks ...

There's one thing about the Rocket Spanish course that I must question, though. Its makers claim that it will give you Spanish fluency in just three months.

That might be true for that minority of people who seem to be born with a natural gift for language (I knew a guy once who spoke half a dozen languages fluently, and who could pick up a new one well enough to converse with native speakers in about a month).

Realistically--if you diligently apply yourself to learn the entire Rocket Spanish course, and if you then go out and find people to practice conversation with--this course could have you speaking pretty fluent Spanish in much less than a year's time--maybe six months for the average learner, longer for some.

I am confident in stating that this Spanish course could take you farther toward fluency--and faster--than almost anything else now on the market.

Here's something neat: You can sign up for six free mini-lessons from Rocket Spanish to get a taste of the course before you make a decision to buy it. I wish more language learning companies would let you sample their wares like this.

By the way, the author of Rocket Spanish is a young guy named Mauricio Evlampieff. He's a native Spanish speaker (from Chile) who's passionate about his culture, language and heritage and enjoys sharing his love of the Spanish language with others. His enthusiasm definitely comes across in the course.

The editor of Rocket Spanish is Amy Waterman, who became fluent in Spanish while living and working in Ecuador. It was she who formulated the concepts behind the interactive audio part of the course.

Recently, I went to Guatemala to study Spanish in one of the Spanish language schools there, along with my wife and daughter. I just wish I had had this course before we went. It would have given us all a leg up, as it were, and permitted us to begin our immersion study of Spanish at a much more advanced level.

I could go on and on about this course, but I'll stop. Suffice it to say that if you're looking for something that can really help you to learn Spanish at home, I urge you to seriously consider this course.

I note that they are currently offering the downloadable version of the Rocket Spanish course for half its usual price--so act quickly if you want to get that good deal.

Spanish Courses: Study Almost Anywhere

One of the great things about learning Spanish is that you can study it in so many parts of the world, especially, of course, in much of Latin America, where Spanish is the predominant languages. But also in Europe, and, these days, in so much of the United States, where knowledge of Spanish is becoming more and more useful.

You can take Spanish courses in Mexico, or Guatemala. You could travel to Nicaragua and find schools offering Spanish courses there. Costa Rica, Panama -- these two offer some great Spanish courses.

And then there's South America. Except for Brazil, you're likely to find an abudance of Spanish schools in almost all of the South American countries. Ecuador is an excellent locale for studying Spanish--and the courses are bargains, price-wise. Peru is good too. Chile and Argentina also have good reputations as places to study Spanish. And on and on. And ... there's always Spain, the birthplace of the Spanish language.

But whether you travel overseas to study Spanish, or study completely at home, a good Spanish course will make it so much easier. In later posts, I'll be reviewing what I believe to be the absolute two best downloadable Spanish courses: Rocket Spanish and Learning Spanish Like Crazy. In other words, this suggestion is only for the single people.

If you really want to learn Spanish quickly--in addition to studying a good Spanish course--find a “significant other” who’s a native of a Spanish speaking country. Preferably, someone who speaks very little or no English. This way you will be forced to listen to and speak Spanish.

(More to come ... including advice on how to maximize your learning with one of the best Spanish courses available.)

Patrick Jackson is the founder of the Learning Spanish Like Crazy system of learning Spanish. It is imperative that you believe in yourself and your ability to learn this beautiful language. I cannot overemphasize this point.

I am a strong believer in taking full advantage of the power of thought to supplment and bolster whatever Spanish course you're using. This is a technique that has not only helped me to learn Spanish, but it has also helped me immensely in everything that I have ever set out to do in life. I encourage you to use this same technique – not only in learning Spanish – but with any goal that you wish to accomplish.

In anything that I am striving to accomplish, I first visualize the successful outcome of the goal.

After I have visualized the successful outcome of the goal, in this case speaking Spanish fluently, I then map out the steps that I must take in order to arrive at the accomplishment of my goal. For example, the steps may involve practicing Spanish or doing lessons in your Spanish course every day for one hour.

Next, I put in writing the steps that I need to take on a daily basis to accomplish my goal.

Then I take action. Not sporadic action or inconsistent action. I take daily, consistent, tremendous action until my goal is accomplished.

(More to come ... including advice on how to maximize your learning with one of the best Spanish courses available.)

Patrick Jackson is the founder of the Learning Spanish Like Crazy course of learning Spanish. It’s a language-learning reality. When we were children we were completely unaware of the emotion called “embarrassment.”

Throughout my teenage years and adult life, my mother would tell me about a story – a true one – that when I was four years old I had wanted a drink of water, and I asked “wah wah – wah wah.” My sister, on the other hand, barely two years old at the time would say “mother, may I have a glass of water please.”

Despite the fact that a child not much more than a toddler was speaking perfect English and I was grunting like a caveman, I never became discouraged or embarrassed. I kept at it until I got it right. And now I can say water in two different languages – actually three if I include
Portuguese.

You have to take the same child-like attitude toward learning Spanish, whether learning it amongst people who already speak it or learning via a good Spanish course.

You will make many mistakes. You will mispronounce words. You will use the wrong vocabulary. And you will make grammatical errors. But never let this hold you back from practicing your Spanish with a native speaker – even if the native is a total stranger.

You must accept the reality that making mistakes is a part of learning any language. If you are not making mistakes, it’s because you are not speaking Spanish to anyone. And if you are not speaking, then you are not learning.

Keep in mind that Rome was not built in a day. And neither was Madrid, San Juan, Santo Domingo, Cali, Mexico City, Colón, Havana or Buenos Aires!

(More to come ... including advice on how to maximize your learning with one of the best Spanish courses available.)

Patrick Jackson is the founder of the Learning Spanish Like Crazy course for learning Spanish. Try to imitate their pronunciations, their intonations, etc. This is not something that you should delay. In fact, this is one of the most important facets of learning any language, whether you are doing so by living in a Spanish speaking country or by learning with a Spanish course.

Have you ever had someone come up to you and speak in what sounded like a foreign language? Maybe the person was asking for directions or some other information. And after the person rambled on for a while, you realized that the person was not, in fact, speaking a foreign language. He or she was actually speaking English. But his or her accent was so thick that you initially believed that the person was speaking a foreign language.

This can happen to you as a student of Spanish if you are not careful. You must make a purposeful effort to sound like a native speaker. I know many Americans who claim that they speak Spanish fluently but their accents are awful. When I hear them speak, I say to myself “what a Gringo.” So I can only imagine what a native speaker of Spanish says about the person.

If you wait until you reach the intermediate level to start sounding like native speakers it will be too late to break the chains of habit. Make a deliberate effort to start now. It will begin to pay off when you start noticing how many native speakers of Spanish tell you how great your accent sounds.

(More to come ... including advice on how to maximize your learning with one of the best Spanish courses available.)

Patrick Jackson is the founder of the Learning Spanish Like Crazy course of learning Spanish. Many of them are free. One of my favorites is www.MyLanguageExchange.com. My Language Exchange is an on-line community of language learners. You can meet people who are learning virtually any language at www.MyLanguageExchange.com, many of whom are learning abroad and many of whom are learning at home, by means of a Spanish course.

Since you are studying Spanish you would try to meet someone at My Language Exchange who’s a native speaker of Spanish and is trying to learn English. You could become pen pals with the person. But I recommend that you become more than just pen pals.

As I mentioned previously, the only way that you can learn how to speak Spanish is by actually speaking it. At My Language Exchange, you can meet people interested in doing “voice chat.” Voice Chat permits you to have a live audio chat session with one or more persons on-line. This is one of my favorite techniques for learning Spanish. I have practiced with people from Mexico, Spain and Colombia at My Language Exchange.

Normally, I would help them with English for 30-45 minutes. In exchange, they would help me for the equivalent amount of time with my Spanish.

The last time I checked, My Language Exchange was offering two memberships. When you learn words in Spanish and you relate them to words in English, it is much easier to remember the Spanish words. For example, the word “beber” means to drink. If you make a mental note or written note that the word “beber” is related to the English word “beverage” it is easier to remember.

Here’s another example. The word “vegetales” is related to the English word “vegetables.” If you make a note of this, the Spanish word “vegetales” will be much easier to remember.

This technique works no matter what Spanish course you are taking, or where you are learning Spanish or under what circumstances.

(More to come ... including advice on how to maximize your learning with one of the best Spanish courses available.)

Patrick Jackson is the founder of the Learning Spanish Like Crazy system of learning Spanish. Let me you ask you a question. Which did you learn first: How to speak English or how to read and write English? Of course, you learned how to speak it first.

Then why are they teaching students in the high schools and colleges to read and write Spanish first? That’s because they don’t expect the students to ever be able to speak Spanish. And that’s exactly what happens. Students take several years of Spanish courses, graduate, and cannot even speak Spanish.

There’s another problem with learning to read and write Spanish before you learn to speak it. By default, you subconsciously learn how to pronounce the Spanish words the way you would pronounce them in English.

I made that same catastrophic mistake. It took me countless hours and countless dollars in private instruction to correct the error. After much wasted time and money, I discovered that the mistake could have been avoided. I should not have learned to read and write Spanish until I had at least reached the intermediate level of conversational Spanish, preferably throuh coursework that emphasized speaking.

You're going to have to trust me on this one. Nothing sounds more excruciating to Latin American ears than a “Gringo” with a thick American accent speaking Spanish. How do I know? Because now that I speak Spanish fluently, every time I hear an American with a strong American accent speaking Spanish it makes me cringe.

(More to come ... including advice on how to maximize your learning with one of the best Spanish courses available.)

Patrick Jackson is the founder of the Learning Spanish Like Crazy system of learning Spanish. More than anything else, your habits will determine how quickly you learn Spanish. In fact, your habits will determine if you actually learn the language or not.

Of course, it helps if you have an aptitude for language learning. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a language learning aptitude. In fact, I couldn’t speak English until I was four years old despite the fact that English was my first language and the only language spoken in my home as a child.

However, my desire to learn Spanish was strong enough for me to develop the necessary habits for learning Spanish.

Out of habit, every time I turned on my television it was tuned to Unvision, Telefutura or HBO Latino. Out of habit, every time I got in my car the radio dial was set to the Latino radio station, Latino Mix. If not, then a CD or cassette from a Spanish course was playing.

Out of habit, if I went out to a club it was a Salsa or Merengue club. If I went out to a restaurant, it was probably a Latin American restaurant. Not that Latino food “es mi plato favorito.” But if I go get a steak at Outback, I am probably not going to get a chance to practice my Spanish with the waiter.

In fact, if I was dating someone, she was either a native of a Spanish speaking country or she learned Spanish as her first language here in the U.S.

If you develop and cultivate these habits, you will learn Spanish extremely fast!

(More to come ... including advice on how to maximize your learning with one of the best Spanish courses available.)

Patrick Jackson is the founder of the Learning Spanish Like Crazy system of learning Spanish. It’s not just because you were a child when you embarked on your study of the English language. It’s mainly because you were immersed in it. As a child you heard English 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

If you could hear and speak Spanish 24 hours a day and 7 days a week you would also learn Spanish incredibly fast. Although it may be difficult for you to hear and speak Spanish 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, there are things you can do to help immerse yourself in the language--even if you're studying at home through an audio, video or software-based Spanish course.

Instead of listening to your favorite music station when you’re driving in your car, play a CD from your Spanish course. Of course, if your favorite music station happens to be a Salsa or Merengue radio station, you can listen to the Spanish lessons CD some other time.

When you’re home watching TV, try substituting Univision or Telefutura for MTV or the Discovery Channel. If you are jogging, working out in the gym, taking a walk, or just waiting in the doctor’s office, play a cassette or CD from your favorite Spanish course. If you are waiting on line in the supermarket, instead of reading that gossipy tabloid, press “play” on your your cassette player and listen to a Spanish vocabulary tape or some other Spanish lessons tape or CD.

Have you ever met a Hispanic person who has lived in the U.S. for many decades and is still unable to speak English? That’s because he or she has little or no exposure to English and is constantly immersed in Spanish. That’s what you must try to emulate. Expose yourself and immerse yourself as much as possible in the Spanish language and Latin American Culture.

(More to come ... including advice on how to maximize your learning with one of the best Spanish courses available.)

Patrick Jackson is the founder of the Learning Spanish Like Crazy system of learning Spanish. As an attorney, the ability to speak Spanish has enabled me to represent many clients simply because I spoke their language.

Of course, if you live in certain cities or states you will have more opportunities to practice your Spanish.

For example, if you live in New York you can find many Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, Colombians, Ecuadorians, Peruvians, Mexicans, and other Latin Americans and Latinos to
practice the skills you can learn through a good Spanish course.

If you live in Texas or California you may find a lot of Mexicans that can help you with your Spanish. In Florida, there are many Cubans.

My objective is to give you a multitude of tips and techniques to help you speed up your learning of Spanish. Study in short chunks of time; you'll learn quicker and with less stress if you study for 30 minutes every day rather than 3 hours once a week.

Review course lessons regularly
Go over each of your lessons several times. If you can manage it, a good schedule is once in the morning, once in the evening, and then once a few days later.

Establish a good foundation first
Make sure you have a good grasp of Spanish fundamentals before moving on to more advanced
course material. To learn Spanish most quickly, you need to become comfortable with its pronunciation, spelling, and other basics.

Set targets
Set targets. Make them reasonable Setting and achieving targets will keep you motivated to get the most from your Spanish course. Set a time limit to learn a certain lesson, or target a particular level of proficiency before moving on.

Focus on specific interests
Once you are comfortable with the basics of the Spanish language, learn to talk, write and read about the things that interest you personally. This will make it easier for you to remember words, phrases and grammatical constructions that you encounter.

Don't get discouraged
It will seem at times that you are making fairly rapid progress through your Spanish course, while at other times you seem to standing still or even going backwards. This is normal in language learning. So don't discourged, but when it feels as if you're making scant progress, try going over earlier lessons in the course. You may find they're much easier than when you first studied them, which will boost your confidence and motivate you to continue.

Don't worry about mistakes
Making mistakes as you study your Spanish course is nothing to worry about or criticize yourself for. What matters --especially when practicing by conversing--is getting your message across, not whether you use all the right words, tenses, etc. If you can't remember the exact words, try using other ones; in Spanish, as in other languages, there's usually more than one way to explain or describe something.

Have fun
Find ways to make learning Spanish more fun. Make up songs, games, stories, jokes and anything else you can think of. The courses we particularly recommend (such as Learning Spanish Like Crazy and Rocket Spanish) come with their own built-in fun activities along this line.

Take your language to another level
Subscribe to a printed or audio version of a Spanish-language magazine. Here are some interesting facts about Spanish that you might like to know:

Spanish (español) is classed i a Romance language, so-called because it is part of the lange family descended from Latin (the language of the ancient Romans).

Spanish is the fourth most widely spoken language in the world. Taking a course or classes in Spanish makes a lot of sense!

Portuguese speakers can read Spanish, and Spanish speakers can read Portuguese, though they often cannot understand one another's spoken speech.

The first Latin to Spanish dictionary (Gramática de la Lengua Castellana) appeared in Spain in 1492. In some ways it might be considered the first "Spanish course" as well.

Spanish is used as an official languages of both the United Nations and the European Union.
The country with the largest population of Spanish speakers is Mexico.

The country with the fifth-largest population of Spanish speakers (after Mexico, Colombia, Spain and Argentina) is the United States. By taking a good Spanish course, the English speakers of the U.S. can better communicate with the growing community of Spanish-speaking persons.

Spanish is the native language of about half of the population of the little nation of Belize, although it has no official recognition in that country. The official language of Belize is English.

Spanish holds co-official language status (alongside English) in the U.S. state of New Mexico.

Ladino is an older form of Spanish that survives among ephardic Jews. For that reason, scholars sometimes refer to it as Judæo-Spanish.

Portuñol is the name given to a mixed language of Portuguese and Spanish, spoken in towns on the border between Brazil and Uruguay.

In Gibraltar, you may hear people speaking Yanito (or llanito), a mixed English-Spanish language.

Spanish has three second-person singular pronouns: tú, usted, and in some places, vos As a general rule, tú and vos are informal and used with friends. Usted is formal, used as a mark of
respect when addressing one's elders or strangers. Although such rules may sound complex to non-native speakers, good Spanish courses make these concepts simple to understand.

Vosotros is the plural form of tú in Spain, although in Latin America it is replaced with ustedes.

Spanish is a relatively inflected language, has a two-gender system, about 50 conjugated forms per verb, and a subject-verb-object sentence structure (although this can vary). Again, don't worry if this seems a bit confusing. If you're studying--or considering studying--Spanish from a course or from classes, mastering these aspects of the language will soon become second nature to you.

Technorati Tags:spanish, spanish language, ladino, llanito, Yanito, learning Spanish, Spain, Latin America, Gibralter, languages, trivia, grammar, culture , Spanish courses , Spanish classes

Spanish Courses - Welcome

Welcome to the Spanish Courses blog.
